| Martin Smith is an experienced corporate lawyer whose main area of practice is advising on corporate and business acquisitions and disposals.He has consistently been ranked as a 'leading individual'by the Legal 500 in both the East Midlands and East Anglia and an 'expert' by Legal Business.The Legal 500 have described him as 'conscientious'.
Having worked as a corporate finance executive in the merchant banking sector (in the corporate finance departments of both Lazard Brothers and Kleinwort Benson) he brings an unusually detailed financial and commercial understanding to getting his clients the right deal on the right terms.He read law at Merton College Oxford and was a pupil in the chambers of Lord Irvine before moving into corporate finance and corporate finance law.He has edited a book on corporate finance for Butterworths and undertook the London Business School corporate finance programme. He was head of corporate at the largest law firm in Leicester before becoming a partner at city firm djfreeman where he was a corporate partner in the media and technology department.
Significant deals recently have included the £75m contested takeover of fully-listed Eidos plc for SCi Entertainment Group plc and since moving out of London a large number of private company deals in the media, manufacturing and printing sectors.
He is often able to advise on corporate transactions on a contingent fee basis. He is married with three children and lives in Uppingham.He is a big fan of Leicester Tigers and is a Partner at Sloan PlumbWood LLP.
