Information Commissioner’s Office launches new Code of Practice

12-08-2013 11:42

The Information Commissioner’s Office (the ICO) has launched a new Code of Practice aimed at helping organisations with subject access requests from individuals.

The ICO has received several thousand complaints in the last financial year from people making requests, many of which were in respect of financial information.

As part of the launch of the Code, the ICO have published ten simple steps for businesses in dealing with a subject access request, for example organisations faced with a request should find out promptly from the requester if more information is needed to action the request and organisations shouldn’t amend information even if it’s inaccurate.

For more information on the code, please see the ICO’s press release on its website at: www.ico.org.uk/news/latest_news/2013/New-ICO-Subject-Access-Code-of-Practice
